Armchair Travelers Book Club

Armchair Travelers Book club will discuss several authors this spring. Although the pairs write in the same genre, they were chosen to provide a contrast that the readers can discuss at the meetings.

The April 3 meeting focuses on the stories of Anne Tyler and Joyce Carol Oates. Both write of family life but from different points of view.

Armchair Travelers is co-sponsored by the Sturgis Area Arts Council and the Sturgis Public Library. It is open to all interested readers and meets at noon in the Lushbough Room of the Sturgis Public Library on the first Thursday of each month except August. Questions? Make a Joyful Noise – Sturgis Community Easter Cantata

The 2025 Easter Cantata Choir brings the gift of music to our community in its presentation of Blessed – A Holy Week Journey Through the Beatitudes. The Easter Cantata performances are at 7:00 p.m. on Palm Sunday, April 13 and Tuesday, April 15 at Grace Lutheran Church, 1061 Sherman Street, in Sturgis. There is no charge for the concert, but a free-will offering will be accepted to help cover music costs.

Blessed explores Holy Week through the words of the Beatitudes. Through the beautiful music and lyrics of Pamela Stewart and Joe Raney, we see how Christ not only shared the Beatitudes in his Sermon on the Mount but lived out those words as He became one of us. The musical message varies from other cantatas, but the listener will be drawn into each scene in a very personal way.

History at High Noon

Our Friday, April 18th, program will be a History of the Sturgis Hospital and Auxiliary. We are rounding up people from both organizations for a panel discussion. This program will be held in the community room at Sturgis Monument Health (a.k.a. Sturgis Hospital) at 12:00pm. Their address is 2140 Junction Ave.

History at High Noon is a program on the third Friday of the month (October and November, January through May).
